T-3 is also a leased line connection in telecommunications. T3 lines originally used copper wire but now also include optical and wireless media. T-3 lines were originally designed to transmit digitized voice signals. Current applications also include digital data transmission. A T-3 line comprises 28 T1 lines, each operating at total signaling rate of 1.544 Mbit/s. That is equivalent to 672 voice channels. T-3 bandwidth generally makes sense for corporations that have a need for high speed electronic data transfer between plant sites or offices. Very large call centers, enterprise wide VoIP and IP PBX systems, Internet service providers, universities, research labs, video conference centers and software development companies are also good candidates for T3 lines.
